It’s obvious that so many people are stressed due to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus known as COVID-19. No, it’s not the beer Corona that we add a lime and lemon to and drink at a local tavern with strangers or simply at home amongst friends; however, the coronavirus is bringing everyone together on the internet, in Facebook Live, in groups, on Zoom, etc. And the new hashtag is #alonetogether. That brings me to my point. We are alone, but together. So many people are stressed, anxious, and some even suicidal. Crisis management teams are overwhelmed with constant calls from people who just don’t know how to handle this newly imposed way of life. People are stressed over finances, loss or grief and the uncertainty of one word: “NOW.” Now, what do we do?
Allow me to shed some light for you. Stress, anxiety, worry, and fear are normal. What makes the difference is how we choose to handle these normal stimuli in the time of crisis. I suggest that you sit back, close your eyes, and just breathe. This is the time for you to stimulate your endorphins. In my terms, a simple definition of endorphins are the chemicals secreted by the brain that make you feel happy.
Here are some quick and easy ways to make a shift from the negative to the positive:
Exercise
Positive Affirmations
Watching Comedy Shows
Express Gratitude
Encourage Others
Listen to Happy Music
Yes, suicide has increased. Yes, people are more anxious and fearful. These are normal emotions during times of crisis, but you do not have to fall into that category. Please know that you can come out of this stronger than ever. In times of crisis, champions are made. I hope that you are one.
