As I prepare for my final year of college, I’m filled with nothing but gratitude—for the lessons, the heartbreaks, and the growth. I’ve discovered life will unfold in ways you can’t predict.

Being a “Boss Babe” involves having a vision, doing whatever you can to achieve it, and supporting all women in their personal journeys and aspirations. There is no one way to achieve success.

The experience of learning to play the piano opened up a new world for me, filled with endless possibilities. I gained a newfound appreciation for all forms of art on this journey.

Let’s celebrate National Underdog Day by making friends with underdogs and include them in our social circles. Underdogs can win and successfully contribute to any activity.

So often we keep charging ahead and we do not stop to celebrate or savor the moments of our personal growth. Take time to think about your wins and allow it to fuel your fire into the next year.

My mom did not allow negative ideas into my head about not attending college. She encouraged me to take the next step in receiving an education. So, I applied, was accepted, and succeeded.

As I begin my sophomore year at this illustrious Historically Black College & University (HBCU), I think about how different my life would be if I had chosen not to come “home” to Spelman.

When someone asks you about your resume gap, be honest and tell them why you had taken that time. Telling the truth helps a potential employer see you as a responsible employee.
