4 Tips to Help Better Manage Stress: Focus on Your Physical and Mental Refresh

Woman relaxes on a balcony facing lush greenery while seated with her feet up. A coconut drink sits on the table beside her.

Since 1992, April has been recognized as Stress Awareness Month. At that time, I am guessing that life had started getting more stressful and coping mechanisms were being discovered. After all, stress can quickly affect our mental and physical state.

There is no need to detail what stress is and its effects. Instead, let’s discuss how we can manage stress. Some of the ways below come from my personal experiences which have worked wonders:

1. Being outside in nature: It has been consistently proven that a 30-minute walk in the morning to take in the sun and fresh air restores your body and your brain and helps you better manage stress.

2. Working on a hobby: As adults, our lives get very busy, and we stop thinking about what we like to do. If you take up a hobby and do it just once a week, it lightens your mood and helps you cope with stress hormones.

3. Spending time with your family: Remembering the moments and times from your past and laughing about them brings the family close and helps with stress management.

4. Recognize when you need more help: There can be times when you have tried everything, and nothing works. That means you have to take the step of talking to a professional.

You may have days when you don’t want to do anything except lay in bed but give yourself just 10 minutes and stand outside to breathe or listen to music; trust me, you will not stop, and you’ll be able to keep going. What we need in our lives is happiness and not stress.
