What is the significance of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage? Audiovisual heritage is about digital preservation; however, it is about preservation for moving imagery rather than technical or media preservation. Audiovisual heritage is not well recognized in contrast to smartphones. It also engages its audience on implementing and understanding how audiovisual works and why it should be considered in high regard. Not only should media and technical preservation be considered, audiovisual preservation and audiovisual content deserves recognition and attention.
Audiovisual Heritage is about preserving silent audiovisual films and music from the 19th century and early 20th century. The purpose of Audiovisual Heritage Day is to learn the culture of silent films, music and recordings. Silent camera recording counts as an audiovisual documental heritage. UNESCO put the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage into effect in October 2005. Audiovisual documents are important for the preservation of heritage because it needs knowledge for film history.
How would you celebrate Audiovisual Heritage Day? You can participate in events and activities in the film festival or museum that pertains to audiovisual heritage preservation. You can consider supporting audiovisual archive museums by donating funds and audiovisual documents. The donated funds will benefit the archive museum to get extraordinary services for audiovisual preservation.
Audiovisual documents should NEVER be thrown away or disregarded! We should consider preserving audiovisual documents and media too. Silent films and documents should also be preserved.
