What’s Your Favorite Flavor to Indulge in on National Cupcake Day?

Who doesn’t love a cupcake, a succulent, almost bite-sized piece of loveliness? We as humans have enjoyed cupcakes since the 1800s. In fact, cupcakes came from a baker who wanted to make a smaller cake that was easier to handle instead of the traditional, large 3-tier cakes of the day. The baker? Amelia Simmons, in 1796, wrote the recipe for a “light cake to bake in small cups” for the cookbook, American Cookery. The “cup cake” was a huge success. A delight to the women of the time who were tired of making large cakes for small celebrations, such as a child’s birthday. Baking a small cake in a teacup or ramekin was also more economical for many families.

Since their inception, cupcakes have taken over the world. Today you can find any type of cupcake you desire. Frosting-filled, bacon-covered, vegan, the world is your oyster when it comes to the cupcake. So, on this National Cupcake Day, enjoy! And here’s a tip from your friendly cupcake lover, if you take the cupcake’s bottom off and place it on the top, you get a cupcake sandwich!
